A Different Kanye/Kimmel Perspective

I see that this blog, and much of the internet is talking about the Kanye West and Jimmy Kimmel feud that seeming erupted out of no where. I must admit that I am a huge Kanye fan (I’m seeing him twice in one week in November) and will jump to defend him in an instant. The BBC interviews were fascinating and the Kimmel sketch was, in my mind, unfunny and cheap. Furthermore, this series of tweets, compiled on Storify explains how the skit is actually reflective of the embedded racism so prevalent in American culture. It’s easy to make fun of Kanye’s ego, sure, but portraying him as a child undermines a lot of the profound things he had to say. Check the link out and consider that he’s not overreacting because he’s too sensitive, but rather frustrated with being misunderstood. With being cheapened and fighting an uphill battle every day, when many other artists don’t.
