It was almost two years ago that we learned the sad, sad news: Zooey Deschanel and Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard, the Hipster Royal Couple, announced their divorce. The collective first thought for Death Cab fans? “The next album is going to be so depressing – and so good!”

But if I may say so, Gibbard seems to be doing pretty well as a single dude. He released his solo album, “Former Lives,” last year – and offered a lovely show in New York’s Town Hall in November – and then embarked in a nostalgia-filled tour with The Postal Service this year. Now, Death Cab have taken to their Instagram account to announce that they’re back in the studio recording their eighth album, and we’re all very excited to see what they’re coming up with.

Will the foursome bring us more upbeat tunes like “Stay Young, Go Dancing” from 2011‘s Codes and Keys? Or will they go back to the heart-wrenching days of “The Ice is Getting Thinner” and “Bixby Canyon Bridge”? We’ll just have to wait and see.
Also, we really hope this means they’ll be touring! Seth Cohen would agree.
